Shark Control within The Great Barrier Reef
On the 31st of March 2017 the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority issued approval to the Queensland Department of Agriculture and Fisheries (DAF) to continue its shark control program at specified beach locations within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park.
The permit conditions include the public release of all catch information every two months. Here are links to the catch data for April, May and June 2017.

Prior to approval of the permit (Issued by GBRMPA March 2017) allowing the QSCP to continue operating within the GBRMP. A number of shark species were added to the QSCP's list of "non-dangerous sharks".
Effectively making the following species By Catch (non target animals) within the program.
This means that when these sharks are caught within QSCP nets or drumlines, they will be released. That is, if they are found alive.
Sharks that were already on the non-dangerous list include;
Grey Carpet Shark Chiloscyllium punctatum
Grey Nurse Shark Carcharias taurus
Gummy Shark Mustelus antarcticus
Port Jackson Shark Heterodontus spp.
Tawny Shark Nebrius ferrugineus
Tropical Sawshark Pristiophorus delicatus
Weasel shark Hemigaleus australiensis
Whale Shark Rhincodon typus
Zebra Shark Stegostoma fasciatum
Below are the additional species that are now considered to be non-dangerous to humans by Queensland Fisheries. We have included the catch number for each species on the list, caught between 1962 and 2014, along with the number that were found alive and those that were found dead by QSCP contractors.
